Playing Golf with a President: What an Excellent Round!
Last May I wrote about smoking a cigar given to me by my neighbor bearing the seal of the President of the United States. What a better way to resume writing on Crookedly Lit than by playing a round of golf and smoking another!
I'll give this cigar one thing, it is consistent. It held up to my previous review and was a perfect stogie to hit the links with some friends. Here's what I wrote last May.
The Smoke
The smoke was pleasant. The taste smooth and balanced. And, it smoked straight. No Crookedly Lit Cigar here!
One thing I will say about this cigar, it held the ash on longer than I'm used to. I don't generally tap my cigar to remove the ash. I let it surprise me.
The ash got so long today that I rolled the cigar gently over the ashtray to encourage it. I didn't want to be surprised by ash down my shirt and on my lap.
Golfing at Apache Creek
I met a few friends in Phoenix to play a new course. We planned ahead of time as I knew that I would be in town and as such brought two cigars to enjoy. Needless to say, the President was the only one I got to.
Smoking such a long cigar, measuring a bit over seven inches long lasted through the front nine and into the back. Granted, I didn't light it until a few holes in, but as before, the cigar smoked cleanly and cooly. I never needed to relight it and the taste was excellent throughout.
The first third is always surprising. It has such a wonderful earthy tone to it and that flavor only deepens into the final third. As with many good cigars I smoke, it was with sadness when I was forced to give up.
I thoroughly enjoy fully smoking a cigar.
And, the golf was good too
My days of consistently scoring in the 70s are long gone, but I didn't do too badly. I came in with an 81 with no birdies on the card. That's a good round for me as I normally make at least a couple birdie putts.
During this round, I used a brand new driver for 2021, the Ping G425 Max! I was fitted at the PGA Superstore (not stellar experience) but the club didn't disappoint. Perhaps too easy to fade, but more than willing to give me a baby draw when I coaxed it.
Final Words
One person can change, it's a slow and difficult task for us all to change together for the better.
I know I talked about this before, but isn't it interesting? The key here is for the better because society can quickly change for the worse. Call it mob mentality if you wish, but we see it throughout history. This fact of life circles like a vulture.
Whenever there is progress it is quickly tamped down by regress.
It happens when a group of people with similar beliefs and mindsets flock to one another for comfort and validation. Unfortunately, beliefs blind us. Beliefs are no more than cataracts in one's eye that prevent us from seeing what really is.
Do you have a mindset? Do you believe in a God prescribed by organized religion or otherwise? Have you ever asked yourself...
I'll let you fill in the rest.
There are many polarities when it comes to religion or groups or beliefs. You are wrong, but I am right! You can't come in because you're not like us. You need to die because my God, my beliefs, demand it.
Beliefs are nothing more than what one wants to be true but doesn't really know. Truth is real. Beliefs are hopes.
It had to be said.
